This morning Younger Sister and Roommate and their old college roommate drove down to southern California to visit some friends and stuff, so I have the house to myself until Monday night (when Roommate gets back). I did a little tidying (mostly running the dishwasher, because much wine was drunk and they all made rice krispy treats, both of which make dishes) and then had delicious tortellini with my sister's homemade pasta sauce of awesome. Then I made Jello instant pudding (I know my gourmet skills impress you so) so that was tasty.

I then watched a few season 1 Bones episodes and spoilers for 'Man in the Fallout Shelter' and 'Woman in the Car' ).

It was so super hot for a couple days, and I had this impulse to write about how heatwaves can drive a variety of people crazy. I wanted especially to write a drabble in Bones and Criminal Minds and, amazingly, it happened! I am shocked when sometimes I had an urge to write a specific thing and sit down... and do it. I mean, I sat down and wrote it out long hand and then typed it and edited and then there it was. Honestly, sometimes the story just sort of pours out (which sounds kind of crazy and hippy, that the story "fell from my fingers" or something like that) and happens and it's super cool and exciting. So, long story short, go read Exothermic Reactions and see how elementary!verse John and Rodney, Rusty and Danny, Booth and Brennan, Prentiss and Reid and Morgan, and Fraser and Kowalski all deal with the ick of summery heat. It definitely cheered me up, so hope you enjoy it!

First, I watched approximately a million Bones episodes with Younger Sister until late last night (which makes it partly today) which was fun because it was season one and it's kind of cute to see how adorable Booth and Brennan are (and wow, am I glad that they got rid of the antagonistic FBI vs. scientists stuff, or at least toned it down) how amped up characterizations are in the first few episodes of any show (Free Spirit!Angela is ultra wacky! Conspiracy Theorist!Hodgins sees conspiracies everywhere! Awkward!Zach is super awkward!). Especially because "Boy in a Bush" is kind of the awesomest episode ever, because Goodman is awesome and why did they get rid of him after the first season? Honestly.

Tonight there's a marathon of first season Criminal Minds on A&E and vague spoilers for the first season. )

But the biggest reason why I love today? I was getting coffee at my coffee shop, and the guy behind the counter? Had awesome pink nailpolish on his fingers.

Me: I love that color!
Him: Thanks! It's called scandal.

I heart San Francisco and crime dramas. That is all.

There aren't enough words for how much I should be sleeping, but just posting this to say that Remix has been revealed and I wrote...

Postcards from the Edge (Three Chord Overdub) [Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Oz, PG]

For me was written...

Just Breathe (The Artifact of Vision Remix) [Stargate: Atlantis, John/Rodney, PG] by the awesomely talented [livejournal.com profile] crysothemis

And a rec that you should read...

a sam adams moment, which is a John POV gen SGA/Bones AU by [livejournal.com profile] siriaeve that is brilliant and perfect and makes me want to mash those two worlds together forever. A million &hearts

This story made today top yesterday (where the waiter and busboy of our restaurant asked Younger Sister if she was Ellen Page from Juno), so in other words, this weekend was awesome (despite cold of Impending Doom)

XD

Most of my brain has been taken up with either dogsitting (a week ago, for a week, cuuuuuuuuute cocker spaniel who had squeaky snores, it was awesome) and summer camp (middle schoolers who are funny and tiring). I've also been catching up on Bones (aw, David Boreanaz is adorable). I'm up to "The Cinderella in the Cardboard" and (spoilers for plot twists in S4). ) I really enjoy the random rotation of interns, weirdly enough. Especially Mr. Nigel Murray, who(m?) I find extremely adorable. I feel like someone has made icons with a quizzical looking MNM (as it were) and now I can't find them. Bummer.

Today, Remix Redux 7 is open for reading! My original writer seems to like the remix I wrote, which is excellent. Someone (who is awesome and still anonymous until the 26th) took Not So Artificial and made Just Breathe (The Artifact of Vision Remix) which is hot and adorable and really shows how John and Rodney are sometimes so great together... and yet so inarticulate together. *smushes them*

I had a great time reading in all the fandoms that I know, which is always fun. Go! Read!

My sister and I watched the finale for Criminal Minds (again, for me) which I already griped about here. I've also been reading lots of Prentiss/Rossi, which is sort of connected (by the transitive theory of awesome? I dunno)... :o)
flyakate: Grouchy Kermit with text (Never too old for this Hotch and Rossi C)
I've finally taken the time to catch up (almost) to the current episodes of Criminal Minds and oh, SHOW. I heart you so much.

On top of this, I have been reading some excellent CM fic and thought I'd rec some of it for you all! After a binge of fic-reading a while back, I totally got behind the idea of Rossi/Prentiss (this is helped by the fact that Joe Montagna is both hot and awesome and totally Hotch's BFF, seriously) and some recent fic feels so much in line with canon that I keep blending the two together. So I bring you two (sort of three) recs that are NC-17, fair warning.

Cause of Snow (7,000 words; NC-17) by [livejournal.com profile] wojelah

Prentiss has a flat tire, no power, and a free weekend. Rossi has several spare bedrooms, wine, and a wood-burning stove. Emily's a little baffled, but she'd like the chance to enjoy the evening a little longer.

Total added bonus for this is to hear about Rossi's cool house, though obviously the best part is the hotness of Prentiss and Rossi.

Longest Way Round is the Shortest Way Home (13,000 words; NC-17) by [livejournal.com profile] smittywing & [livejournal.com profile] wojelah

A tag for 4.17: Demonology (which kicked ass, oh show, I love you so). “Think you're escaping and run into yourself. Longest way round is the shortest way home.” -- James Joyce

This is the one where I get confused where the awesome conversations of the episode stopped and this fic (or these fics, because really it's two pieces, one in each of their points of view) began. Bonus points for Rossi cooking Italian food.

And don't even get me started on the adorable potential of Hotch/JJ (in an AU where Will is not in the picture, like Inappropriate (But Unavoidable) (17,000; PG) by [livejournal.com profile] innerslytherin and [livejournal.com profile] severity_softly)... which leads me back into Rossi/Prentiss in that universe and really, now I recall why I have "lengthy yet believable aus" as one of my journal interests, right up there with "elaborate panfandom crossovers" because I will never stop telling you all how awesome Criminal Minds/Bones fic would be, though woah, I am behind in that show like crazy.
flyakate: Grouchy Kermit with text (Never too old for this Hotch and Rossi C)
So I was flipping through the channels and came across Without a Trace and saw that the guys are finding a disappeared serial killer... and GRISSOM is helping figure stuff out. Which totally means that my amazing crossover story idea where Warrick and Danny played football together as kids at a rec center and were juvenilely delinquent make perfect ficcish sense (dude, you KNOW it'd be awesome and why have I never written it? Sheesh.) and even better? It makes [livejournal.com profile] trifles's CSI: Miami/WaT/Empire Records story totally canon. :D

Sadly, I have no more Danny/Martin icons, because that show kind of failed me in a story-telling sense. However, I am several episodes behind on Criminal Minds, though that is a good thing because I also woefully need to clean my room and that way, I will stop being tempted by the television as a means of procrastination. In addition, I still have Mamma Mia to watch from Netflix again. Good times.

To conclude, how is there not more Bones/Criminal Minds fic? Of course, I write this entry hours ago and I have now spent oodles of hours up reading CM slash of any and all varieties (Never thought Rossi/Prentiss was a pairing I would get behind. Huh.). Still, my desire for awesome Bones/Criminal Minds stories (in which Zach and Reid bond over being dork geniuses) still stands. Help me out here, internet!
flyakate: Grouchy Kermit with text (No time to panic! bandom)
So, I signed up for NaNoWriMo (oh lord, oh and if you are doing it to, be my writing buddy!) and then today upped the writing anty even further by signing up for Yuletide. At least they're not at the same time?

I've decided (and thank you for voting!) that I am going to use NaNo to work on BenCharlieMattWillSam (which has a kind of clunky title that might get killed off, here's hoping) and, along the way perhaps put together some Elementary!verse stories (it's about time for report cards, you know... I also had this great mental image of John and Rodney at the library, John merrily wandering around muttering to himself about the Dewey decimal system). It's a little bit cheating because I'm starting with an already begun story and I already had about 2,000 words that I'd put in my word count if I think it'd make me feel like even more of a cheater.

I have achieved a whole lot of furniture in my room, today I should perhaps start sorting through the random bits of crap that I've accumulated on my desk (because it's too small to figure out where else it should go). Also, hook up the printer.

In other news, have been listening to My Chemical Romance's The Black Parade basically on repeat in my car on the way to and from work. It is so good. So good, and lovely to sing along to and I lovelovelove how the slower songs are spaced around those that really rock out and "The Sharpest Lives" leads to "Welcome to the Black Parade" and time signatures are just on crack and awesome.

It is very rainy today, and prompted me to go look for "Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day" but no online video helped me out. Except for giving me "Heffalumps and Woozles" which I mostly find disturbing and way too similar to the "Pink Elephants on Parade" scene from Dumbo (which scared the heck out of me at like age 6). So, sadness.

Clearly means it is time for some Criminal Minds (oh, Special Agent Morgan is so pretty, and I feel like Reid would get along with Zach from Bones in an amusingly awkward way. Now there's a fic worth writing. Any good Bones/CM crossovers, guys? There has to be.) and a snack.

Enjoy your Mondays, everyone!
flyakate: Grouchy Kermit with text (Bones can read the bones)
Awww, early Bones... they're both so cute and adorable. I'm watching "The Man on the Fairway" and Booth/Brennan are so cuuuuuute. And I swear the random dude who's looking for his dad looks uber familiar , but I can't figure out why. (Thanks to someone's rambling on IMBD, I can now say it's because he looks a hell of a lot like Eric Close from Without a Trace. That is so strange. ETA: OMG, and also like Kevin Rahm, who was Amy's drug-addicted but then reformed and hot cousin on Judging Amy. Weeeeeeird.)

I also watched a season three episode (which I missed, because I caught the "Bones is awesome" train a wee bit late) and it's so interesting to watch parts of a story arc that you've already seen the conclusion too. Especially because spoiler for the end of season 3, the episode name of which I forget )

I also have another disc from the first season on my Netflix queue (which reminds me, need to send To Kill a Mockingbird back), so three cheers for roundabout watching of a show.

Tomorrow, our summer camp is going to see a movie and because it has to be rated G, we're going to see Space Chimps. Hopefully it won't totally suck? At least it will be air conditioned. And in the morning, I'm teaching upper grade math, so that will be interesting. Hopefully I can explain "equivalent division" better. It was hilarious, they called me this morning to say that the teacher couldn't find the teacher editions of the math books. I have no idea how they ended up in one student's desk, but it was quite random. And I had been fast asleep so I probably wasn't any help. "Uh... in the room somewhere? It's not like I took them..."

Okay, need to post this before my computer runs out of batteries. And then probably should get ready for bed and leave the dead people (and Booth and Brennan and Angela who is made of awesome) alone until tomorrow. When I will see my cousin and hang out and discuss our family act for the family talent show. Because that's just how we roll in an extended family of 100+ XD Gotta love it.
flyakate: Grouchy Kermit with text (Bones and Booth hard on the case)
Okay, whatever bad things I remember saying about Bones before (even though they are all approximately 15 years old, but whatever) are totally taken away by the fact that I love this show to pieces. It is adorable and quirky and bizzare and cuuuuuute.

Spoilers for Baby in the Bough )

Chicks with Sticks was cute (I am proudly (ow) sore from yesterday's frisbee game), had a Subway sandwich for dinner which was yummy but I ate too fast. Today was day 1 of being a PE teacher, tiring and hot, but will be all right, I just need to wear more appropriate clothes tomorrow ;o)

Off to (finally!!!) put the dishes in my dishwasher AWAY. *fleeeees*
flyakate: Grouchy Kermit with text (Bones and Booth hard on the case)
I've been a little behind in watching my tv shows, but thank goodness for Tivo.

Oh, Bones, you are so cute. spoilers for Player Under Pressure )

I'm watching the most recent CSI: Miami right now, because I love Horatio Cane to bits. Though frequently I can't stop thinking about [livejournal.com profile] trifles's crossover fic where Horatio has a sketchy thing for Speed and it's all kinds of horrific hilarity, I tell you. Because if you don't read H as comforting than he is sketchy as all hell. Although OMG spoilers for To Catch a Predator )

Of course, I'm still behind on this week's Supernatural and then Monday is new Bones (eee!) and there's last week's Law & Order: SVU. The fun never stops!

And it's fun to see who wrote what for Remix! So go read them! Or, even better (equally as good?) write John/Rodney drabbles for [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_match here. My next post will be of my fic, so apologies in advance for the spam :D?

Tomorrow I get to play Ultimate Frisbee! I am excited, though nervous to be meeting approximately 19 strangers. Still, something to do, and frisbeeeeeee. *bounces*

Still haven't really touched the dishes yet. Maybe I'll go do that now. Awwww, look how... not productive I am.
flyakate: Grouchy Kermit with text (Comala come one the dance is nearly done)
Second graders are funny. Also, a little noisy and wiggly because it was the first Monday after Spring Break; three break downs and some raised voices, but still. The high point was quizzing the kids about states and one of them telling me that the nickname for Texas was "The Lonely Star State". *cracks up*

Have kind of a headache now and had anxiety stomach issues after I got home. Good times. But there is new Bones (they are so cute! I heart Bones/Booth banter to death. Even though Zach is kind of overly awkward, but still. Cuuuute, all of them. Especially Sweets' girlfriend, who is great.) and then I might watch the rest of Labyrinth and start some laundry.

OMG, had to break in with laughter at mild spoilers for recent new Bones ep. )

I went to bed mildly late (midnightish) last night, so hopefully tonight will be earlier so I forstall the afternoon energy lag. Whee.

And apparently CTY needs a Science instructor in town over the summer. Hey, I could do that! XD
