Title: Let It Snow
Fandom: Eureka
Pairings: implied Nathan/Allison
Word Count: 2,979
Rating: gen
Warnings: none.
Summary: Sometimes a snowstorm is just a snowstorm. Yes, even in Eureka.
Notes: Written for Aithine as part of [livejournal.com profile] yuletide 2009, requesting Jack and Henry friendship where Jack gets to be as smart as we know he is. I didn't get quite as much Jack and Henry in there, but Jack does get to be a genius in a people-person sort of way. It's set mid season 2 with no real spoilers involved.

Telsa doesn't do snow days, Dad. Turns out that when you live in a town where the roads are engineered to be ice, sleet and snow free, it kind of means you never get a day off. Didn't you read the handbook?

I rambled more about the story here. Gosh, it's so fun to write in this fandom.

I hope everyone is having a good start to 2010! Does anyone else think that the resulting new years' sunglasses from Times Square looked kind of adorably Seussical?

I am very happy to reveal my fic from [livejournal.com profile] yuletide because I got to write in one of my favorite fandoms :o)

Let it Snow (Eureka, gen)
Sometimes a snowstorm is just a snowstorm. Yes, even in Eureka.

My recipient wanted a prompt with some Henry/Jack friendship (or otherwise), especially when Jack gets to be good at what he does and smart in a way that doesn't have much to do with science. I didn't get as much of the 'ship as I wanted--that piece of the story wandered away from me--but I liked the idea of Jack dealing with a "normal" problem when all of Eureka's convenient programming kind of goes to hell. Because he's good with people and problems involving organizing people. I played merry hell with the timeline, because I kind of heart Nathan Stark to tiny pieces, so sue me.

Enjoy!

Having watched large parts of seasons 1 and 2, I really can get behind Jack Carter/Allison Blake. Also (of course) Allison/Nathan Stark. Also? While I feel it would be problematic and need some serious boundaries, Jack/Nathan/Allison would be all kinds of hot.

Crap, I need a Eureka icon in the worst way.

Also? Jo's acting in "Purple Haze" kind of made my night last night. For real. XD

So I went and saw Iron Man again last night with some guys from my ultimate frisbee group and it was way fun again. Maybe tomorrow I'll ramble intelligently about it, but mostly I'm here to tell you that I was watching Eureka (oh so cute and quirky) and found this awesome fact out, thanks to Wikipedia:

The character of Nathan Stark on the television show Eureka is inspired by Tony Stark.

You can even see it if you look at the actor who plays Nathan. *glees* No wonder I like them both so much. It's like the transitive property of Stark!

To conclude: they both (each?) have slightly Joe Flanigan type hair that spikes up, Robert Downey Jr. most of all. I don't have the brain to pick out and upload an icon. That'll be tomorrow.

I hope this amused someone, because it sure amused the hell out of me. XD

Title: Early Bird Special
Fandom: Eureka
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Jack and Nathan
Word Count: 1,170
Summary: Life in a day.
Notes: Written as a pinch hit for BlackEyedGirl in [livejournal.com profile] yuletide, who wanted Jack and Nathan and Eureka oddness. Ta-da! I fixed a few word mistakes that I didn't catch before uploading the first time, if it looks different. Man, I think I've found a new fandom to write *facepalm*

Early Bird Special )

which is ungrammatical, but the best you'll get from me at this date and time. XD

Christmas was lovely, New Years low key and mostly amusing. Nice (though tiring) time with various bits of family, and tomorrow we're back off to southern CA for another almost week in which I turn older and hopefully soak up some sun, fingers crossed and weather willing.

Small thoughts, varied and sundry:

If you haven't seen Ocean's 13, be heartened, for it is more like 11 and gleefully distanced from 12. Danny and Rusty are... so Danny and Rusty, it makes my heart glad (and full of fic bunnies, but that's not really new).

Upon rewatching the third Pirates, I remember why I enjoyed it, and why I am so happy that [livejournal.com profile] fahye "fixed" it with turn your sail (never say we die).

[livejournal.com profile] yuletide has come and gone (again) leaving multiple fascinating fics; I am forever amazed at how spot-on the characterizations and voices in each fic is. Glad to know that there is an audience who glories in Who Framed Roger Rabbit fic as much as I do. Also, if you are the only person who hasn't read this, go read The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down because it is the brilliant ficcish child of the movie.

Because the author reveal is official, I can point you to my two fics. I wrote a Something Wicked This Way Comes story that walked a much darker path than I meant: Beat, Pause, and Beat. Also, I pinch hit an amusing Eureka romp, Early Bird Special, which makes me want to write and read more Eureka fic. I will be posting them on this journal as well and linking them to my Big List of Fic (called Flya.fic in my sidebar, I'm so clever) so apologies for the spam.

It's almost time for the world to start back up again (I don't have to "be" anywhere until I sub on the 9th) which is too soon. But what do you do.

I hope that all of you had and are having a lovely holiday, and especially doubly and triply so for [livejournal.com profile] capedcrusader92 and [livejournal.com profile] indy_go, who had birthdays. Huzzah, Capricorns!
flyakate: Grouchy Kermit with text (Heaven's philosophy)
I'm watching last week's Eureka and can't stop being amused that Michael Shanks is still so Daniel Jackson, no matter the show. He has to explain about alchemy and history and I totally felt like he should be wearing glasses (and how sad is it that Daniel totally went from dorky and glasses wearing all the time to the sporadic glasses-wearing super hot guy that he is? Not that I'm totally complaining, but still).

Eureka is ridiculously dorky, but quite fun, mostly because it embraces its dorkiness. Though they're all being entirely too angsty at present, but it is the season finale, so that makes sense. I have to say, the actor who plays Nathan Stark? Is pretty smoking hot. Even though he's kind of a bastard... Cut for Spoilers for Eureka episode 2x13, A Night at Global Dynamics )

Subbing was fun! I got to play "hockey" (with wiffle balls) in 4th grade and learn the intricacies of Red Light/Green Light. Did you know that there's a new "light" now? If you say BLACK LIGHT?

They all stop and dance. I'm totally not making this up. It's all kinds of hysterical.
