The last week (whoops, kinda forgot to post for a while there) was pretty good, with the excitement of my teacher being out sick on Tuesday so I taught the whole day ALL BY MYSELF! It was a little scary, but I got it done. Whee!

While the weather had been really gorgeous, today we have several inches of snow and icy mush on the ground, EW. New York March, you fail. So does the fact that I feel like I'm getting a cold. Ewwwwwww. Here's hoping not.

I am fully foritifed with some caffeiene and some pasta for dinner later and many many movies: Mirrormask from the video place; and the Ethan Hawke Hamlet, Brigadoon 'cause I love this movie to bits, and Bedknobs and Broomsticks all from the library. I'm so excited! And sleepy! Yay for Saturdays

In other news, both The Illusionist and The Prestige have come out on DVD, and if you haven't seen either, they're both good. I'd say Prestige is a better movie and less predictable (and with less distractingly odd facital hair) but both quite fun. Maybe I'll pick up the Illusinist when I take Mirrormask back.

But for now, i feel gross, so I'm gonna lie down somewhere (probably my bed, because the couch is in the living room and the living room is cooooold, brrr and stick in movie and do some of the "light" work I need to do.

If I'm feeling up to it later, I might even make cookies, because I've been meaning to for days and haven't... gotten around to it.

Also, read lots of gorgeous SGA:A AU fics yesterday, so will have to make a post reccing them. Mostly, I love the AUs because they don't require me to have knowledge of the show. Too many shows, so little time.

Because this is the THIRD time Safari kicked it on me, you get a bulleted list:

* Saw The Prestige again. Still quite good. Both Jackman and Bale quite hot. David Bowie? Quite awesome.

*Went to The Cloisters and wandered around the part with Playwright!Twin and her sister (who was here allllll the way from Boston). A great time. Gorgeous weather and so cool. Perfect size for a musem. Also, because of my ID, I get if FREEEE! Wahoo. They have the Unicorn tapestry and lots of carvings of Jesus. AND a kickass picture of St. Michael stabbing an AWESOME looking Satan. Go, if you can.

*Bought two 1-dollar paperbacks from Partners & Crime mystery bookstore: The 39 Steps by... someone, and The Thin Man by Dashiell Hammet. Good times coming soon, clearly.

*Finished reading The Prestige (if anyone wants to borrow) and am now halfway through The Power of One by Bryce Courtney. God, I'd forgotten how GOOD this book is, hadn't read it since I was a kid. Wow. Read it if you haven't.

*Cleaned my room, though at present my bed is a riot of unfiled paper. Whee?

*Made stew! It was a little watery but Mmmmmmmm

My lesson last week went smashingly and tomorrow in first grade is Parent/Teacher Conferences, which is... exciting, in a terrifying sort of way. I should start jotting notes to help my teacher out. Not to mention that I'm teaching again.

Didn't sleep enough this weekend, but still, had so much fun. Which is what's important. :o)

Sitting in the coffeeshop (which has been reviewed here and is as indie and adorable and as crowded as they say) working on my "Child Inquiry" project. Of course, because I'm me, this means that I have to rewrite my first three data pieces (which... were lacking in analysis, to put it nicely, and pieces of crap, if you're being really honest). Older Sister went to go visit my parents (although obviously they're HER parents too), but, again, I KNOW ME, and I won't get anything done there. I've learned that I really need to do as much of my homework as possible on the weekends, because I don't give a damn on Wednesday night (or Monday night, or Tuesday night...) and then it's crap. So far, I've done the "fun homework", namely reading Because of Winn-Dixie and taking notes, and reading my two chapters in how-to teach reading. I should type up a lessonplan for tomorrow (Writers show, don't tell, their feelings.) or for Wednesday (Writers use sound effects to add even more details to their writing). However, I don't have student teaching on Tuesday (wohoo, Election Day!) so that will be helpful. And restful...

I saw The Prestige with Playwright!Twin on Friday night after dinner with [livejournal.com profile] rhymester and her boyfriend and it was a fascinating movie. Definitely a "Christopher Nolan" film (which makes sense, obviously, as it IS. He's the same guy who did Memento and Batman Begins, if you didn't know) and both Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale did a phenomenal job. Scarlett Johansen was great, Michael Kane played his same movie-role of Random Sidekickassed Person and the woman who played Christian Bale's wife was also really, really good (Rebecca Hall, a newcomer).

More concrete things I liked?

Spoilers appear out of thin air! )

So go see it, if you haven't. I'm also reading the book it was based on (by Christopher Priest) and it's great fun, written mostly as journal entries by the two rivals. Apparently the plot runs a little differently, but I'm enjoying it so far :o)

Off to be productive (and not just hog the comfy couch)!
