which is ungrammatical, but the best you'll get from me at this date and time. XD

Christmas was lovely, New Years low key and mostly amusing. Nice (though tiring) time with various bits of family, and tomorrow we're back off to southern CA for another almost week in which I turn older and hopefully soak up some sun, fingers crossed and weather willing.

Small thoughts, varied and sundry:

If you haven't seen Ocean's 13, be heartened, for it is more like 11 and gleefully distanced from 12. Danny and Rusty are... so Danny and Rusty, it makes my heart glad (and full of fic bunnies, but that's not really new).

Upon rewatching the third Pirates, I remember why I enjoyed it, and why I am so happy that [livejournal.com profile] fahye "fixed" it with turn your sail (never say we die).

[livejournal.com profile] yuletide has come and gone (again) leaving multiple fascinating fics; I am forever amazed at how spot-on the characterizations and voices in each fic is. Glad to know that there is an audience who glories in Who Framed Roger Rabbit fic as much as I do. Also, if you are the only person who hasn't read this, go read The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down because it is the brilliant ficcish child of the movie.

Because the author reveal is official, I can point you to my two fics. I wrote a Something Wicked This Way Comes story that walked a much darker path than I meant: Beat, Pause, and Beat. Also, I pinch hit an amusing Eureka romp, Early Bird Special, which makes me want to write and read more Eureka fic. I will be posting them on this journal as well and linking them to my Big List of Fic (called Flya.fic in my sidebar, I'm so clever) so apologies for the spam.

It's almost time for the world to start back up again (I don't have to "be" anywhere until I sub on the 9th) which is too soon. But what do you do.

I hope that all of you had and are having a lovely holiday, and especially doubly and triply so for [livejournal.com profile] capedcrusader92 and [livejournal.com profile] indy_go, who had birthdays. Huzzah, Capricorns!

This started as a bizzare list where first I just wanted to list some generative random bits of several characters' canon (or personal fanon), but instead... it became this. Let me know what you think.

Feedback is love.

Rusty Ryan likes peanut M & Ms.

I don't know where and/or when I decided this fact, but it's very firm in my head. How odd.

No wonder he and Dean would get along XD

*scurries back to my story*
flyakate: Grouchy Kermit with text (Danny/Rusty Oceans 11)
I started this back over the holiday and finally churned it out (should be sleeping, or making my lunch, or taking a shower. Oops?) For some reason, I was really intrigued with a slightly fractured Danny/Rusty, because it seemed like more of a challenge than not. I'm not a huge fan of Danny/Tess, but I wanted to play with it a bit, and see that dynamic from Rusty's perspective. Un-beated (sorry!) and love to hear what anyone thinks. Ta-da!

Title: Negative Space
Fandom: Ocean’s 11
Rating: PG
Characters: implied Danny/Rusty, Danny/Tess
Word Count:: 1,295
Summary: If the answer is no, can I change your mind?
Spoilers: Set between O11 and 12, so spoilers for the end of O11.
Disclaimer: The boys and Ocean’s 11 don’t belong to me, but Steven Soderbergh. No profit was made, though I had a hell of a lot of fun.

When the sky is falling, don't look outside the window. Step back and hear I'm calling. Give up, don't take the fast road. )

Feedback definitely always takes the house.

This one practically wrote itself. If anyone actually knows Linus' canon middle name, I'd love to know as well. And he was in Chicago in O11; I decided that this clearly meant he'd gone to Northwestern. So sue me :o) Enjoy! (though it pains me that I don't have a Linus icon. *pout*)

Title: Gotta Pick a Pocket or Two
Fandom: Ocean’s 11
Rating: PG
Characters: Linus, Bobby and "Mrs." Caldwell, short cameo by Danny at the end
Word Count:: 1,097
Summary: Life in the Caldwell household.
Disclaimer: Ocean’s 11 and Linus don’t belong to me, but instead to Steven Soderbergh (and probably George Clooney at this rate). No profit was made.

You got to know when to hold em, know when to fold em. Know when to walk away and know when to run. )

Younger sister showed up in SF, which means I can now read and link to my fanfics. Hurray for slash!

Title: All These Things that I've Done
Fandom: set pre-Ocean's 11
Pairings: Danny/Rusty, Basher
Word Count: 1,435
Summary: It's a three man con. Written as a [livejournal.com profile] yuletide pinch hit for [livejournal.com profile] anitabuchan. The title is from a song by the Killers. The Tangiers casino is from CSI.

It's been so many years that Rusty is no longer sure if that is how they actually met, scamming and bluffing their way through a game of poker, or if he imagined it. All he knows is that the clatter of cards and chips always makes him think of Danny's face.

Wow, if you haven't seen it and need a laugh (or to roll your eyes) go watch the trailer for Ocean's 13. I'd be irritated about the penchant for continuing to make sequels about this, if they were all so aware of how amusing and corny it is. And Al Pacino, George Clooney, Brad Pitt AND Andy Garcia? Hell YES. *giggles*

Incentive to work on my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide pinch hit, that's for sure. *waggles eyebrows* I dutifully made a list of all the fic ideas that had been rattling in my head and have finished/worked substantially on... none of them. Oops?

But Older Sister is here! Now all we need is Older Brother (2nd Older Sister-with-Husband can't get off work) and it will officially be Christmas! And, you know, a tree. Somewhere.

Clearly, I can't be arsed to post about student teaching, but I finish two fics in the last two days? Nice to know where my brain's priorities are... *grumbles* For the record, I don't use the word "arsed" in normal conversation because, not being British or anything else-ish, I cannot pull it off. But I wish I could. Moving on.

I am now two days down in student teaching, and the kids are lovely, though noisy and tiring. It'd almost be too much--too much stimuli, too much everything--but then one of them holds your hand on the way down the hall and it just kills you with how small their hand is, how cute they are. Wow. So yeah, a good time. Will post more explicitly under the filter.

But there is/was fic! First, yesterday I posted a Supernatural story, Alma Mater Studiorum on [livejournal.com profile] spn_flashback. The other thing that I just finished and sent was an Ocean's 11 story. So go read Courage and Convictions! It is Rusty/Linus which is kind of R! There is junk food! Yay.

Okay, off to blather about student teaching (hopefully) and make my lunch. 'Cause I am sekritly a small child going off to elementary school every morning. :D?
flyakate: Grouchy Kermit with text (Prayers of some boondock saints)
Title: Courage and Convictions
Summary: Linus needs to steal some things, but others only take the courage to want them.
Notes: Written for the [livejournal.com profile] takethehouse challenge and more specifically [livejournal.com profile] trakkie, who wanted Rusty/Linus: Linus is almost a master thief. Hope this amuses and satisfies. No characters within belong to me (though neither does the airport policy about no liquids, of course).

Courage and Convictions

Packing! Now to see if all the stuff I want to bring back actually fits in my suitcase. The eternal question :o) If nothing else, Finding Serenity can probably go back with Mom, as I doubt it is crucial to my student teaching. And it's not like I like a million miles from CT when I'm in New York. So no worries there.

I just hate flying. Boo. But I have a whole morning left in Maui, so I plan to get up early (*gasp!*) and take a WALK with family. I also kind of want to hit Border Express and see if they have a good plane-travel book, as I've finished all my summer reading. I suppose I could read Zinn's People's History, but I'll check to see if they have anything... lighter.

My plan is to also work on my Firefly fic in the morning and on the plane and maybe even start my O11 fic for [livejournal.com profile] takethehouse. Wouldn't that be the height of productivity?

So off to jam some things in a suitcase and get to sleep early-ish.

To conclude, I posted fic before, if you missed it.

Resumption, PG-13, American Gods/Stephen King's It, 1,680

Is there a good "crossover fic" site on livejournal that anyone could reccommend? I'm just not really in the loop, fic-posting wise.

Also, I really need to make a tag for the actual FIC of fanfic, to diferentiate between that and my ficcish ramblings. *puts on to-do list*

That time again! The wonder that is the rec triad. I know you've been quivering in antici...pation. *grin* Don't lie. It's perfectly clear. So, anyway, to liven up your July days, I greatly recommend the following Rec Triad:

Book:

Someone, on some site, mentioned that they "had to read To Say Nothing of the Dog because someone had told them it was full of Peter Wimsey allusions". This stuck in my mind and so I picked it up due to a Six Degrees of Separation sort of thing. All Wimsey aside (no pun intended), it's a really fascinating sci-fi timetravelly fantasy thing, that reads a little like a Wildean romance written by Jasper Fforde. Now that's a description you don't see very often, huh? If you've ever wondered about the payoffs and problems in time travel, or if you are amused/entertained by Jeeves/Wooster type stories, pick this up.

Fic:
Punk Academic by Hoyden. It's a Due South AU, Fraser/Kowalski, NC-17. Simply put, it casts Fraser as a new profesor in the English department of a Chicago university, with "Ray as an openly gay professor in his department and Stella as the headmistress". Yes, you read that correctly, but I swear it's a fabulous fic, as cracked out as that concept may sound. Some AUs thrust the characters into some situation and they lose all what made them that character (you know you've read them), but this one lets Ray and Fraser be exactly who they were... if they had been English professors. Also amusing because of the slightly cynical and sarcastic take on teaching it gives. I wish Ray had been one of my professors in college *swoon*

Song:

In honor of my renewed love of Ocean's 11, I give you A Little Less Conversation (A Little More Action) by Elvis Presley. OMG I love this song. Also, I am finding Paul Anka's swingy Big Band cover of Oasis' Wonderwall (you wouldn't think it would work) extremely appropriate for creating the correct mood for my O11 caper fic I am writing.

**

Wow, my sub-theme this time should be "You Wouldn't Think This Would Work/Be Good, But..."

Life continues apace, and I feel that clarity about the shape of the rest of my summer will surface soon. Maybe tomorrow. Which will also include the wonderful bizzarity that is Sweeney Todd with [livejournal.com profile] rhymester and one of [livejournal.com profile] alemara's friends. Joy! I shall attend the tale of Sweeney Todd! This should not amuse me so much...

Oh, and Due South-influence GIP. For those who know, it's from "You Must Remember This"when Fraser, Ray, Huey and Louis are playing poker... with matchsticks. Because Fraser would report them for gambling with real money. *snerk*
