flyakate: Grouchy Kermit with text (In 1984 math does YOU)
Sitting in the coffeeshop (which has been reviewed here and is as indie and adorable and as crowded as they say) working on my "Child Inquiry" project. Of course, because I'm me, this means that I have to rewrite my first three data pieces (which... were lacking in analysis, to put it nicely, and pieces of crap, if you're being really honest). Older Sister went to go visit my parents (although obviously they're HER parents too), but, again, I KNOW ME, and I won't get anything done there. I've learned that I really need to do as much of my homework as possible on the weekends, because I don't give a damn on Wednesday night (or Monday night, or Tuesday night...) and then it's crap. So far, I've done the "fun homework", namely reading Because of Winn-Dixie and taking notes, and reading my two chapters in how-to teach reading. I should type up a lessonplan for tomorrow (Writers show, don't tell, their feelings.) or for Wednesday (Writers use sound effects to add even more details to their writing). However, I don't have student teaching on Tuesday (wohoo, Election Day!) so that will be helpful. And restful...

I saw The Prestige with Playwright!Twin on Friday night after dinner with [livejournal.com profile] rhymester and her boyfriend and it was a fascinating movie. Definitely a "Christopher Nolan" film (which makes sense, obviously, as it IS. He's the same guy who did Memento and Batman Begins, if you didn't know) and both Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale did a phenomenal job. Scarlett Johansen was great, Michael Kane played his same movie-role of Random Sidekickassed Person and the woman who played Christian Bale's wife was also really, really good (Rebecca Hall, a newcomer).

More concrete things I liked?

Spoilers appear out of thin air! )

So go see it, if you haven't. I'm also reading the book it was based on (by Christopher Priest) and it's great fun, written mostly as journal entries by the two rivals. Apparently the plot runs a little differently, but I'm enjoying it so far :o)

Off to be productive (and not just hog the comfy couch)!

Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] alemara, I would have forgotten it is Guy Fawkes Day! Ironically, I watched V for Vendetta last night. To say all the things I enjoy about that movie would take too long. Although I can no longer watch the Evy in the rain scene without remembering the icon "Refreshed by Metaphor". It cracks me up every time now. And there still NEEDS to be Rookwood fic, as a HP/V crossover ('cause there was a Rookwood in the Department of Mysteries fight! See? The connection of Fascist regimes! It's totally canon!)

So, to be totally unexpected and predictable, I wanted to post this. Because it's good to remember things, even if as a stupid American, most of the historical significance escapes me XD

Remember, remember, the 5th of November
The Gunpowder Treason and plot;
I know of no reason why Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.

This last jaunt to the library, I returned some awesome books. I know that many of you have read The Giver by Lois Lowry (and if you haven't GO NOW, run, don't walk and borrow/beg/steal it). A frightening and fascinating future utopia society. Cool ideas about learning from the past, too. Did you know that it was part of a loose trilogy? It's true! Following it (and set in the same universe) are Gathering Blue (about a girl in a village preoccupied with sameness, but dealing with creativity and artistic expression) and Messenger (which shares the characters of the first two and wraps things up, and has new questions). They're great fun, so go read all three or the last two, depending :o)

Also, I checked out another of her books called The Silent Boy. Using old family photographs she discovered... somewhere, she constructs a story about families and connection in the early 20th century. It's a great book too and I love the narrative voice of the young girl.

I also reread Because of Winn-Dixie (so cute and emotion-filled) and that old favorite, The Outsiders. God, I love that book.

So go read a kids book! I promise, they go fast, and you'll feel all nostalgicly teenager/little kid-ish :o)

Wheeee, CW is showing last week's Supernatural on Sunday nights! Now, I wasn't that big of a fan of that episode, but another chance to watch Sam and Dean, sign me up! XD

At 7pm EST, FYI
