flyakate: scene from the Philadelphia Story (Mike is in awe of CK Dexter Haven)
[personal profile] flyakate
Apparently my fandomness is merely yearly, as the last time I posted was a few days/weeks later than now. Still, it is time for the Yuletide rec list! I totally failed at signing up to write a fic, but I made it onto the pinch hit list and wrote an awesome twisty funky little story that I will no doubt tell you about later. For now, on to the reccomendations!

Lily Remembering by Anonymous for puella_nerdii
The Giver - Lois Lowry

Lily's POV after Jonas leaves. All sorts of ache and subdued touches of what is happening in the community under the surface.

My Soul to Keep by Anonymous for Gryph
The Stand - Stephen King

Maine, before. I love this book to pieces and it was great to visit with these characters years before the story starts. Great and totally in canon with the tone of the book.

We Live. by Anonymous for carmilla
V for Vendetta (2005)

A great post-canon story that helps figure out what they might do after.

Curtain Call by Anonymous for kiitos
Dead Poets Society (1989)

Oh, Neil. I love this universe it all its sharp corners.

Apo Koinou by Anonymous for kiitos
Dead Poets Society (1989)

The boys post-canon. If this movie continued, I think this happened.

O Terra, Addio by Anonymous for marina
Elementary (TV)

Amazingly believable Sherlock and some lovely plausible Sherlock/Irene backstory

You Belong With Her by Anonymous for listedheart
You Belong With Me (song)

I never really thought about what would happen after the song ends. I think this did.

Living by Anonymous for jonesandashes
Shawshank Redemption - All Media Types

Red/Andy have the best epic bromance.

"Worked okay so far?" by Anonymous for oxymora (oxymora)
Hobbes and Bacon

OMG, I didn't know of the concept but I love it! All the fics for this category are amazing, go read them.

Pray your gods by Anonymous for shadowkeeper
A Study in Emerald - Neil Gaiman, Sherlock Holmes & Related Fandoms, Sherlock Holmes - Arthur Conan Doyle

The source is an amazingly dark and twisted short story and as a Holmes fan from way back, I always check out these every Yuletide. Nice glimpse of the "good" guys and "bad" guys exist in this world.

Applied Heresy by Anonymous for magisterequitem
His Dark Materials - Philip Pullman

Backstory for Lyra's parents. Lovely wordbuilding and true to the canon.

A Great and Gruesome Height by Anonymous for pockey_slash
Iowa - Dar Williams (Song), Dar Williams Songs

This story encapsulates the joy and yearning of this song perfectly. And the crossover (which I won't spoil for you) is perfect.

Four Ways Marcella Could Have Ended Up Working For Martin and One Way She Did by Anonymous for intrikate88
Grosse Point Blank (1997)

Hahaha, love this, makes me want to watch this movie so bad.

Fire and Water and the Car That Went Zoom by Anonymous for sotto_voice (Lexie)
Hellboy (Movies)

Awww, a great history for Liz and Red and Abe, so great. I particularly love the bashful hope that this version of Red has.
